Why do we give?

Giving financially to the church is a principle that dates back before ancient Israel, beginning with Abraham. In Genesis 14:20, Abraham gave a tenth of his possessions to Melchizedek, the priest of God Most High, as an act of gratitude and worship. This practice was later codified in Israel, where God commanded the people to offer the firstfruits of their increase to fund the temple and support the priests (Exodus 23:19, Leviticus 27:30). Even the Levites were required to give a "tithe of a tithe" to acknowledge God's sovereignty (Numbers 18:26). God established this practice to remind us that everything we have comes from Him, and by trusting Him with our finances, we acknowledge His provision (James 1:17). When we partner with God in this way, He faithfully provides for our needs (Matthew 6:11).

Though the tithe is an Old Testament principle, the underlying concept remains relevant today. God deserves our trust and worship in all areas of our lives, including our finances (Malachi 3:10). Giving financially is also vital to supporting the church’s mission. Your generosity enables the ministry of Harvest Church to thrive and create a lasting impact both within our church and in our community.

Thank you for your support!

Why give?

“I was out of work for a period of about two and a half years, and Connie was kind of out of work at the same time. God gave us enough other things to do that produced income that we were not only able to continue to tithe, but our needs were being met in terms of food and housing and things like that. They were lean times though... if you were gonna put your faith in one place, putting it with God is the only thing I can think of to do at this point in my life. I just know that God is trustworthy and he has been so faithful to us that I can’t imagine not trusting him with anything that comes forward. I encourage anybody to think about the aspect of how faithful God is. Think about the aspect that we’re charged with being obedient, and if you aren’t tithing, consider starting, see what happens, put it to the test like we did. And I think you’ll see the same result and that he is the most faithful that is possible.”

“I thought I could either buy used tires or I could give like I know the Lord’s asking me to and just trust Him to take care of the tires. So I tried to cheerfully give, and I gave, and then a couple of days later, somebody came up to me and said, “Hey, I noticed your tires are bald. I’d like to buy you four new tires.” So the Lord totally provided, and I think Paul gives this great answer for our fear of giving bountifully. He says in [2 Corinthians 9:8], ‘And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.’”

We give as an act of worship, gratitude, and obedience, reflecting God’s generosity and supporting His mission to love and serve others.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 ESV (emphasis added)

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
